As of December 9th, 2009, the H1N1 vaccine is now available at most of the CVFP facilities. If you are a little nervous with the constant news media coverage of the recent Swine Flu outbreak, take a moment and get informed. The CDC website has excellent information on Swine Flu - what it is, how to protect yourself and more at www.cdc.gov/swineflu/swineflu_you.htm . Remember some of the key items in avoiding the flu -
- Handwashing with soap and water (especially after you sneeze). If not available, use an alcohol based hand rub.
- Cover your nose and mouth when you sneeze and throw the tissue away,
- Avoid touching your eyes and nose and mouth. Germs spread that way.
- Most importantly, if you are sick, stay home
If you are traveling, you can check the current status of confirmed cases in the United States on the CDC website at www.cdc.gov/swineflu . If you are scheduled to travel outside of the United States soon, you can check the current status of confirmed cases in specific countries on the World Health Organization website at http://www.who.int/csr/disease/swineflu/en/index.html. Other excellent sources of reference online include WebMD and MedlinePlus.gov.
